Hopefully Bucky or the Punisher will take over his mantle while he is gone, which would be flawless.

All I have to say is, booyah! to anyone who didn't believe me.

It was a very good issue, with multiple narrators telling their side to the story, one being Sharon, one Bucky, and the other the Falcon, with a fourth at the beginning I believe to be Nick Fury.

Getting in the zone

I have officially run out of Fables and Y trades to read, so I decided to add DMZ to my growing pile of Vertigo graphic novels.

You see, my superhero comics come every Wednesday, but the more adult/non super hero types just read wayyy better in trade form, because the story isn't broken up and I don't have to wait as long between cliffhangers, etc.

The best way is to be a couple years behind on a series, so you can read 8 or 9 in a row, but alas, I decided to pick up DMZ, and let me tell you I am enjoying the ride.

It's a joyous romp through a broken and battered New York City, through the eyes of rookie journalist Matty Roth. Weaving through sniper fire and air raids, Roth is removing his rose colored glasses and finally witnessing the real world. He is also getting a crash course on war and its effect on innocent lives.

Children with missing limbs, dead bodies and building fragments, debris and blood crowding the streets, Matty goes behind the scenes and views what it is like to live in such tragic conditions, all through his camera.

The rest of America wants to paint the war torn city as if the only ones residing are the crazed militias and evil doers, but in fact there is a human side, one filled with pain and suffering, and it is Roth's job to expose the truth, one frame at a time.

-

Brian Wood has done an excellent job with instant character depth, graphic art, and a tone completely fitting the Vertigo label. DMZ eases comfortably next to the rest of the great adult comics of our time.

Woman not so Wonderful any more

Joss Whedon has announced that he will no longer be doing Wonder Woman. Ok, there goes the film right into the shitter. Anyone who would pass on Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman is a complete asshat.

This comes right after they bought the rights to some shit ass script about World War II. I want to see a modern Wonder Woman, not this shitty World War II shit from the tv show. It has been done, it doesn't need to be done again.

Either way the franchise is now ruined. Let's hope they can make it not completely horrible, but since there is no more Whedon flavor to the film, I am sure it will just be another Elektra... forgettable once the awful taste in your mouth subsides.

DC's next big event?

DC just released this image with the tag: "Let the battle cry be heard in the land, a shout of great destruction."

DC just released this image with the tag Which is a tag from the bible about the destruction of Babylon.

Notice Red Robin from Kingdom Come, Donna Troy as Wonder Girl, Elseworlds Batman, Green Arrow and Black Canary look peeved at each other, the Legion flight ring (maybe) next to Blue Beetle, and what looks to be the Atom above Blue Beetle.

Also all the characters that have been killed in the past year or so are seen here dead. With Captain America and Spiderman and Civil War taking everyone's attention, Carey snuck in and made the X-men not only readable again, but fucking awesome.

I can't wait.

Pre 07 X-Event Crisis War Day Lineup

By Mark Brooks

Captain America... dead?

It is obvious how Civil War is going to end.

Iron Man's side wins. Deathstroke has formed his own group of misguided and evil Titans, appropriately called Titans East (the name of the sister group back in the day)... although I am going to go with Titans Evil.

The line up includes Batgirl (who is bat shit crazy now), Match (some kind of Superboy zombie clone... yeah rub some salt in an open wound), Risk (former Titan who's arm was ripped off during IC), Riddler's Daughter Enigma, Sun Girl, and Inertia (Kid Flash's nemesis... too bad he's Flash now and won't be fighting...), and Kid Crusader (some crazy shit after Kid Devil).

So yeah what a great team! Deathstroke has really done it this time. Too bad both of his kids hate his ass and are on the current line up of the Teen Titans, not to mention the fact that this little team he put together would have been a nice match to the Titans pre-Infinite Crisis, but now they have so many wild cards it will be a nice challenge.

With the aspect of surprise, Deathstroke's team will get in a few nice wins, but in the end the Titans will take their asses down, and his kids will give dear old dad the whallop he deserves.

My money is on Wonder Girl ripping this Bizarro Superboy a new asshole, as well. Never fuck with a woman scorned, especially one who lost her boyfriend right after her virginity and still hasn't made anyone pay... not to mention she has the power of Ares and knows how to use it.

Y I wish my name was Yorick

Prologue:

Reading a comic like Y The Last Man by Brian K Vaughn is like watching your favorite tv show. The characters just suck you into their lives and you almost feel like you are there, feeling the pain as a crazy Amazon cuts her own breast off, or the excitement of a girl on girl fist fight on the roof of a train, and even the sadness of a monkey's nightmare of loss and abandonment after being forcefully removed from his best friend's arms.

This is no ordinary comic book. It is an adventure, a wild ride, through the manless world of Yorick Brown. It is imagination at its finest.

-----

There was no nuclear holocaust in this world, just a random plague/disaster that caused every male on the planet to spontaneously drop dead. Imagine every being with a Y Chromosome, every male human, cheetah, whale, spider, ant, dove, just dropping dead instantly.

The highways are filled with wrecked cars, planes crashed, ships sank, dead bodies left everywhere. Of course the women set many things back on track, but some of them went bat shit crazy. They cut their breasts off and dyked out with bows and arrows and carpet munching viciousness decided to rape and pillage the other women.

Meanwhile some decided to make fake beards and pretend to be men to make some sort of order and balance to everything that is going on (as well as becoming tranny prostitutes).

Enter Yorick Brown, the last living human male. Escape artist, literate, clever, and teetering the line between boy and man. He loves magic tricks, comic books, video games, is in love with his girlfriend Beth (whom he proposed to right before the "incident") and is bound and determined to find her. Only problem is that she is in Australia, and he is in New York.

First, he decides to run to Washington, DC, and find his mother (a congresswoman). He wears a gas mask and tries to muster a fake girlie voice so he isn't killed by amazons or raped by some dried up hooch. After a few months, he finally runs into mommy dearest, and she sets him up with agent 355 of the Culper Ring, a secret government organization.

Three and Yorick also pick up Dr. Allison Mann, a geneticist who already tried to clone herself (*achem* lesbian *achem*), and may be able to help figure out why he survived, only problem is that they have to get to California to her lab (which ends up taking two years). Together, these three, and Yorick's male pet monkey Ampersand, will change the future and try to save the world.

Along the way they have many crazy adventures, including finding a pregnant astronaut, fighting off amazons (one of them being Yorick's sister Hero), escaping from crazy Israeli's out to kidnap the boy wonder, a battle royale on the roof of a train, lesbianism, taking out what's left of the Arizona militia, fighting more amazons, protecting Ampersand from some crazy ninja bitch, dealing with drug runners while being hunted down by the Australian navy, looking for Yorick's fiancee Beth, taking down former secret agents gone rogue, all the while trying to conceal the identity of the last man to avoid international chaos (who somehow ALWAYS finds his way into trouble).

Throughout the adventure we have seen hilarious moments, tragic losses, and intense action, all making for one hell of a ride. The final chapters will be released this year, and hopefully our heroes will get there in one piece.

My favorite scene of all was when Dr. Mann was having a most pre-menstrual day and said that animals do not feel love or emotions, everything is based on instinct, basically saying that Ampersand did not love Yorick. Cut to the monkey in a nest filled with eggs in the middle of the ocean, and one of the eggs hatches to be Yorick's face crying. Suddenly a bird swoops down to steal the egg and Amp protects it with his life, about to go all kung fu on said bird. It then cuts to Ampersand sleeping with his arms curled around his shoulders and the saddest look a monkey could ever give. For some reason it just gave me chills.

I seriously advise anyone who is a fan of fiction, whether it is sci-fi, sappy chick flicks (that ALWAYS come from some sappy chick novel), lesbians, super hero comics, Stephen King, it doesn't matter, READ THIS STORY.

I am not going to call it a comic book, because it isn't a comic book. It is a magical, fun filled, exciting, amazing adventure that I wish everyone could go through. And I know if they feel even a fraction of the intense enjoyment I get from Y The Last Man, they are hooked.

Civil War: Heavy Shoulders

Marvel's Civil War is probably one of the most intense and life changing events the characters in this Universe have ever endured. Honestly, having grown up with the characters of Peter Parker and the Richards family, I too almost feel the heavy burden the war is having on their lives.

The story is great, intense, powerful, I can't say how much I am loving it. My problem has nothing to do with the writing, or the story itself, other than the fact that I am feeling completely and utterly drained. Since this summer the build up and "holy shit" moments have just been crammed down our throats, and as enjoyable and wild the ride has been, I am feeling like Spiderman at the end of Civil War # 5. Broken, battered, clinging on for dear life.

This rollercoaster is about to end, and a new era for our superheroes will arise, but I really wanted to focus on Fantastic Four #540.

This comic really exemplified all the feelings I have been having. Although the story was a bit "meh," the thought and feeling behind it was what really hit me.

The Thing goes to Paris, France (after being beaten and abused financially and mentally by the US Government for leaving), and runs into a bunch of superheroes who need his help to fight the bootleg Mole Man.

The Thing is shocked there are no conspiracies, or secret agencies listening in, and other bullshit, he is just there having a normal superhero fight and remembers the "good old days."

Now, I am not one to reminisce about the Golden Age, because honestly, I am happier with modern comics than I have been almost ever, so the new stories and darker plots don't bother me, but every now and then it is nice to see something fun and exciting that doesn't lead into a government investigatory panel and SHIELD agents ripping through your front door accusing you of a crime when you just wanted to help people.

I really felt the Thing's disgust with the whole war. After reading something like 8 Civil War tie ins in a row last week, I felt completely drained and mentally exhausted to the point where I didn't even want to attempt the 50 something other comics I had to read in my stack.

Instead I read Y The Last Man vols. 3 and 4, and all was right with the world. I was then able to go back to my giant stack with a much better state of mind.

The moral of the story? It is nice to read a HUGE event like Civil War, and it really makes you feel the characters struggle and strife. The roller coaster has been one hell of a ride, but after a while, it is nice to not have to worry about all of that stuff, and just have a little meaningless fun.
